From the storm last night and totally amazing
Awoke to the day and the sun’s array.
Dread raced faster than the winds.
Of what damages and great losses
To leave you fussing and confused
Merely a waste of time and self-infused.
Importance, you are reminded in a snap.
You did not awake to a tree on your lap,
And you on the other side in eternal reside.
They did not find you in what once was your bed.
Imagining is that the foot or the head.
What does it matter at all?
The pine disallowed to lie down but stood ever so tall.
The excerpt above is from one of my pieces, “The Morning After the Storm.” I just wanted to share this section of the poem to remind us about what really matters - life. It is befitting for the season we are enclosed within literally and mentally. Storms appear in our lives sometimes without notice. Are you prepared for the storm? Where you aware it was heading your way? No is not an uncommon response. These sudden aggressions in your life can be troubling and shift you off course. Not to downplay the pain and discomfort that storms may cause for anyone (myself included), but it is not the end! You are still here. You have your life to live, so live it. Things, people, and jobs come and go, but your soundness of mind, health, and strength means more. For the next storm that comes into your life, go to sleep knowing that “morning” will come ever so bright and calm… You SURVIVED!
